Town of Nový Jičín
Nový Jičín is a town in the Moravian-Silesian Region, 34 km southwest of Ostrava on the Jičín River. It has about 24,000 inhabitants. It is known especially for its historic central square with an arcade and the historic Renaissance house called Old Post, Žerotín Castle and a rich Czech-German history. It also houses the Novojičín Museum. The historical centre of the city is an urban conservation area. In 2001, it was declared Historic City of the Year, and in 2015 the New Town Square was awarded "Most Beautiful Square in the Czech Republic". The Novojičín Train Station received the award "Most Beautiful Train Station in the Czech Republic" in the same year. Novy Jičín is home to the famous Tonak company and the famous General Ernst Gideon von Laudon died here in 1790.
