British Masters prevail in Commonwealth derby
Přerov - The British Masters' team had a fairly smooth win against their Commonwealth brothers from Australia. There was a bit of trouble early when they quickly lost their lead, but it was smooth sailing from there, winning 6-2.
The Brits had the first big chance in the second minute but were unable to capitalize. Then in the fifth minute, Newberry set up Hehira, who was denied by the pad of Ells.
The game remained scoreless, but finally in the eighth minutes, Marcel Maly received a pass from Wightman and his shot from the right side found the net. Less than a minute later, however, Australia managed to tie it on Olivier Baux's high shot.
GB went back to the attack and Newberry set up Hehir on the right wing, but he couldn't make a go of it. Then in the 10th minute, Simon Hehir scored on a rebound after Newberry's shot had hit Ells in the shoulder. A minute later, Wightman again set up Maly and the Brits were on their way.
Early in the second half, Michael Newberry made it 4-1. Then Hehir with his second of the game and Craig Findlow made it 6-1 with still 10 minutes to play. The Australians still had their pride, though, and Smith scored his second of the game in the late going to make it a 6-2 final.
