Swiss clinch final thanks to 3 minutes, Canadian journey is over

18.05.2018 | Věra Novotná

Přerov - Inline Hockey World Championship - The Masters category - knows its first finalist. The Swiss, who defeated Canada 7-1, have one final step in front of themselves. The country of the Helvetic Cross managed to score two goals in one minute three times. On the other hand, Canada did not manage to score at all in the second half. The key for Swiss win was Rolf Schrepfer's hat trick.

The Canadians quickly opened the scoring for the first semi-final match. In the first minute, Rob Leggat shot and Müller capitulated for the first time. The Swiss did not break down from the one-goal deficit and managed to score twice in under a minute to take the lead.

In the seventh minute, Rolf Schrepfer beat Servos with a wrist shot and then at 7:11, Marcel Kündig went in alone and won a face-to-face encounter with the Canadian goalkeeper with a hard shot, which went into the net with a little help from the crossbar. The Swiss had a two-man advantage in the first half, which lasted almost a minute and a half. Their attempts either missed or caught by Servos.

In the second half, Swiss Imhof was serving a four-minute penalty, but Canada did not score during this long advantage largely because of Müller, who was like an impenetrable wall between the pipes. Thanks to his performance, the Swiss were able to increase the lead as Michel Ferrat was quick enough near the net and promptly swept the puck into the net. Just half minute later, Michael Diener went in alone on Servos and with a shot over the goalie's pad gave Switzerland a three-goal lead. In the 32nd minute, Schrepfer beat Servos again, and the Canadian goalie was pulled from the net. His successor, Cobb, was also unable to keep a clean account. Hansjörg Neff beat him on a 2-on-1 break and then Schrepfer completed his hat-trick and sent Switzerland to the final.
